做什么永远不如怎么做更重要
一位爸爸注意到，他的孩子们总是拖到快要睡觉时才去做作业，然后请求他的帮助。他告诉孩子们，他在每晚7点到9点之间随时愿意帮助他们做作业。第一次，他的一个孩子在9：30过来找他帮忙准备一项测试，他微笑着说：“我知道你需要我的帮助，我很乐意在每晚7点到9点之间帮你。这次你只能靠自己了。”在这种时候，父母很容易觉得对不起孩子，或者认为最好给孩子更多机会（在“我告诉过你”的说教之后）。但是，如果你有勇气坚持自己的诺言，情况就会有很大改善，因为你是在让孩子从他们自己的行为中学习。要记住，只有你不再唠叨、提醒和说教时，这种方法才管用。
很多父母都知道了如何通过将车停在路边，一言不发地等待孩子们安定下来再出发，以避免行车的不安全。当孩子在商场里开始哼唧或发脾气时，父母带他们坐回到车里，避免了孩子在购物过程中大发脾气。父母只需要说你一准备好我们就回去。”有些父母通过明确地告诉孩子，自己不会借钱给他们，并坚持执行，避免了孩子们的争吵和大哭大闹，并使孩子学会了管理自己的零花钱。告诉孩子，只有当每个人都系上安全带之后你オ会开车，并言出必行，停止了无休止的权力之争。
你很容易就会唠叨、提醒和解释，而不是坚持执行。和善而坚定型的父母会将这些话省下来，用于谈论他们的孩子多么好，或者跟孩子谈有趣的话题，或者解释人生。

1。充分关注；
2。认可孩子的感受，并在幻想中同意孩子的愿望（“我真希望我们能满足你的愿望”）；
3。告诉孩子要做什么，而不是不要做什么；
4。在孩子的帮助下找出一个解决办法；
5。说出你的感受，并设立限制；
6。用行动坚持到底。
当电话再次响起时，妈妈就按照自己说的去做了。她请对方稍等一下，并告诉雪莉这个电话不是打给她的。她把雪莉带到乐高玩具旁，然后开始接电话。当雪莉走过来喊着“我想接电话时，妈妈拿着电话走到了阳台上，并关紧了阳台门。
这个孩子学到了什么？她明自了你说话算数，而且你尊重她和你自己。她知道了自己可以合作并承担责任。她懂得了感到沮丧没有关系，但她不能总是随心所欲。她学会了相互忍让。
惩罚或许能在当时解决问题，但它无法像坚持到底那样教给孩子这些技能，而且是对孩子的侮辱和不尊重。当孩子受到惩罚时，他们会感到愤怒或内疚。当感到内疚时，他们会相信“我不好”。当感到愤怒时，他们会产生“等着瞧”的想法。这都不是父母仅仅因为惩罚能更快地起作用而希望自己的孩子形成的信念。
